What I Learned as an Intern for C. Miller Boutique

Over the course of my last semester at VCU I had the pleasure and opportunity to serve as one of C. Miller Boutique’s public relations interns, gaining insight, experience and confidence in my abilities before I dive headfirst into the professional world. Throughout my time here, I’ve come to understand all that goes into building a small business and how public relations specialists can help brands like C. Miller blossom.

From writing and editing blog articles, to drafting and scheduling social media posts, to researching marketing and advertising strategies, to creating marketing materials for brand identity and distribution, working with C. Miller boutique as an intern was the perfect opportunity to put all the skills I learned in my studies into action. My favorite part of being an intern for C. Miller Boutique was the amount of creative freedom I had. It was obvious that Cutina trusted Mallory (the other intern) and I to make decisions to move the brand forward. During my experience I had the opportunity to discover and develop my interest in graphic design, creating a new brand logo and several illustrations to be used on merchandise from journals to t-shirts.

Having the chance to offer my skills to a black-female owned brand has been an incredibly fulfilling experience and has inspired me to someday start my own business. Working for a smaller business, especially one owned by someone I identified with, provided me the opportunity to grow alongside my internship supervisor, making our professional relationship feel comfortable, open and natural. My internship with C. Miller Boutique is something I will never forget and will always be thankful for.

It’s inspiring to see pieces of your efforts come together to create something bigger than yourself, and with C. Miller Boutique it was clear to me that all the work I did, big or small, was greatly appreciated. While Mallory and I’s time with Cutina has come to an end, the C. Miller brand is only just getting started.

Miller Boutique is currently looking for interns to join their team for the summer months, from educational concentrations like Public Relations, Web or Graphic Design, Marketing and Advertising and Photography and Videography.
