Oscar's Worst and Best Dressed
Oscar’s night is one of the most important red-carpet events. Stars who have made their mark in some of the most highly rated and influential movies of the year showcase their lavish and extravagant outfits and gowns. For these stars, it’s a night of mingling, taking photos, and winning awards. For their stylists, it’s a crucial test to get to the end of the night with no wardrobe malfunctions, and to not get placed on “worst dressed” the following day.
This year’s ceremony was a big one to make up for the last few years’ dark days of virtual red carpets. And so, let’s talk about the nights several red carpet looks - good and bad.
One of my favorite looks of the night was the beautiful Lori Harvey. She arrived looking like a work of art and came to impress! She wore an embellished strapless gown with a sheer netted skirt and intricate spiral pieces. She was styled by Maeve Rielly, and the dress is by Tony Ward, a Lebanese-Italian fashion designer who is known for his sculptural creations.
Another one of my favorite fits of the night was Megan Thee Stallion. She floated down the red carpet in an icy-blue dress by Guarav Gupta. The ruffled ball gown included a train with blue swirls that followed behind her. She looked futuristic, classy, and glamorous, all at once.
An outfit that I was sad to see I didn’t like was Ciara’s. She wore a shiny, merlot dress with cut-outs all over. She looked beautiful with her metallic makeup and pulled off the slicked back, wet hair look, but I just didn’t like the dress! It reminded me of a trash bag with holes in it - sorry Ciara!
I really enjoyed Jada Pinkett Smith’s statement-making red carpet outfit. Her dress consisted of a large and extravagant green gown that had long sleeves, a high neck, and a middle zipper closure. The train was flouncy and added lots of high volume and textures. This dress is from Jean Paul Gaultier, and gave her a sleek, tidy, elegant look.
